I made this backstop for my boys' basketball goal to keep the ball from hitting the base and going in crazy directions. Helps with brick shots, too (an all-too-common occurrence with the younger ones). I'm not crazy about how I attached it to the pole, though. I bought some large hose clamps, but the ones I bought are too big. I can get smaller ones, but since they start life round, they're not flush with the board. I thought about those threaded U-shaped brackets, but I don't want the hardware on the playing side of the board, though I could hacksaw off the extra threads. Any suggestions for a better way to attach it?

Dome head bolts on the front? That'd be about as minimal hardware as you could get away with. Attach 'em with a clamp on the post side

OK:-) And I think that the hose clamps are the best and less intrusive mounting solution. Easy to fit, easy to remove. I hope that your board is thick enough to resist to many, many hits... this could be the problem.

I'm not too worried about the board; it's a normal piece of plywood, and ought to hold up well enough. I'll likely paint it at some point so it looks better. I'll probably just put some duct tape over the clamps, as the metal edges are a bit sharp. I didn't want it to be permanent, either. So, I'll probably just stick with the clamps for now, until something else comes to mind. I'll need smaller ones, though. I had to put some scrap wood behind the top one so I could cinch it tight enough.
